Update on Sandra

An update to all of Sandra's dear friends and family. On June 12, 2009 cancer was found in Sandra's brain, lungs & liver. The months following were a debilitating whirlwind of brain surgery, chemo/radiation, transfer of care to Memorial Sloan Kettering, ultimately ending at Calvary Hospital for palliative care of advanced cancer patients. Sandra's fight was valiant and heroic to the very end. At 5:07am, on Saturday, October 3rd, in peace & surrounded by love, Sandra's body released her and forever freed her from human suffering and pain. She was blessed to receive constant love from all of you. Thank you for your beautiful words & tributes already left on facebook. I encourage you to read them all. With love and appreciation - Deanna, Louie, Sally & EJ

Deanna, Mr. & Mrs. Holguin & EJ,

It's so hard to imagine that this vibrant soul that I knew from our St. Anne and Mater Dei days has passed from this earth and is now soaring with the angels.

Her blog was an inspiration to all that read it. This amazing woman and all she was going through could express her thoughts so eloquently and with a touch of humor.

Please know that Sandra was in my daily prayers since Deanna's initial contact last year about Sandra's illness. I will continue to keep you all in prayer as you go through this very difficult time.

Much love to you and the entire Holguin family,

Lisa (Velasquez) Mendiaz

So many broken hearts...so much sadness. Deanna was right...everyone who met Sandra loved her. Now we meet each other through our grief at losing her. She left something behind to ease the leaving, her blog, her web page, her emails to us. I am just so sad that this happened to her. We miss her so much.

I found Sandra's blog when working on my blog. She appeared to live her life to the fullest. I have never met her, but followed her journey with her illness through her blog. I am so sorry she lost her battle. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Sandra was truly a shining light, an unforgettable soul. Though I knew her less than a year I soon came to love her.
